On more than one occasion recently, I have found myself on the other end of poor customer service, suddenly it seems we have reverted back to a time when only a few practiced creating good relationships with those who "pay" their wages.

I am not an expert by any means, but doesn't it start right away, when you enter or meet someone?

A simple smile or acknowledgment will start things off on the right foot, is it really that difficult? The old adage it takes more muscles to frown than smile is true.

Spare me the company script, that you spit out lacking real emotion without any eye contact what so ever. Give me something to work with....anything will do, just show some spirit, a pulse if you will, I promise your management won't mind, that might even take your cue.

If you are going away for 10 minutes, let me know & by all means make me feel special those precious seconds you are going to spend with me, again a smile maybe & be right back, simple.

Offer a suggestion, take note of something personal, show me you care about something besides the next text or facebook post.

Not asking to start a long term relationship, just make me feel comfortable and welcome....really, you can do it and it's simple.

SMILE ;) and say something, anything will do, while making eye contact....the rest will fall into place, I promise!

What’s your number? If you are a real fan, you know what this means. Seriously.

Only true fans of Jersey Mike’s Subs know the answer to this question: What is your Number? If you don’t know the answer, then you are not yet a real fan. People ask all the time why Jersey Mike's? First, you need to understand the power of our product. And to understand the power of a Jersey Mike’s Sub, you need to know your favorite sub. To know your favorite sub, means trying just about every sub on the menu.

When you ask any Jersey Mike’s employee, franchisee, owner, operator or Home Office team member – we all know what our favorite sub or at least our Top 3. We might be biased or we might have stopped at the #6, #13, or #20. But we know our number. And we are committed and dedicated to it.

Some of us are hooked on a sub that is not on the menu – so we are cult followers of the hidden #. We are the few, the proud and the special. We call out our number and people in line look at us like we are crazy. Or maybe they look at us like we are very special. We know something they do not. We are a part of an elite crowd with inside information. They suddenly want to be us.

Either way – to be a fan, you need to prove a few things. The most important is that you get it. That you understand that our sub is king. You need to understand how important it is and that is separates us from everyone else.

You need to understand what makes our product unique. You need to know how much thought goes into each sub. And you need to know which your favorite is. It’s OK if you have two favorites. Most of us have a few, we all rotate. For example, on most days, I’m a #6 or a #17 chicken cheesesteak.

So, next time you come in – know your #. It will be the most important number you know, ever, Seriously!

Cure ALS Fundraiser @ Jersey Mike's Frisco/Plano

Commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is devastating and one of Jersey Mike's fans Paul has been diagnosed.

Paul, his wife, and a good friend are fighting for ALS awareness and to find a cure for ALS, originally seeking a donation for their golf tournament, Jersey Mike's Frisco/Plano offered to hold a fundraiser in the store by offering a FREE SUB to anyone donating to the cause!

The results were SUBtastic, 140 customers participated donating a total of $1,654! an average of $11.81 per customer.

Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman's Basketball Camp

It's not everyday that a Legendary Hall of Fame Basketball Player asks you to support your community and her basketball camp; but, this week and next Jersey Mike's Frisco/Plano is supporting Coach Nancy Lieberman's 55 scholarship kids by providing them with a SUB for lunch. Over 250 kids will be attending the camps. Coach L's enthusiasm for the community is as passionate as Jersey Mike's, which makes it a pleasure to ensure "her" kids get a quality lunch.

Health Department and my Mental Health

Right in the Jersey Mike's Subs Frisco Plano mission statement: "served in an impeccably clean restaurant", which we do maintain....so why do I get so damn nervous and uptight every time the Health Inspector comes in? Hell, I have shot free throws in front of 10,000 people, that was pressure! We have always received an "A" grade, usually 1 minor infraction of something silly not labeled or out of place, NO WORRIES! right? Wrong, my heart sinks, my brow sweats and my shoulders hunch, thoughts of I don't know what race through my mind, as if some giant rat came in the store and had babies since I left 30 minutes ago......Life is funny, even when we know we have nothing to worry about we stress more, when we should stress we don't? Why is that? Not really sure.....plus for goodness sake we make subs, not new hearts.

Guess the point is, we are true to our mission statement and pass with flying colors, and my mental health suffers, because I want our customer to have the best freshly sliced sub in a clean store served by a well trained team. Thanks to all of you for making us the best.

Wipe Out Kids Cancer Donation

Jersey Mike's Subs of DFW presented WOKC with a check for $50,000 last week, which concludes this wildly successful fund raiser benefiting children with cancer and their families.

It was an amazing ride and Jersey Mike's Frisco Plano was happy to be a part of the success! The communities of Frisco and Plano came out and supported this cause by raising $6,760 in our 2 stores, we appreciate all of you!

Wipe Out Kids Cancer Day at Jersey Mike's Plano/Frisco was a huge success, raising $6,760 for this very deserving Charity. In addition, DFW Jersey Mike's Stores combined to raise $50,000!

Customers in Jersey Mike's Frisco/Plano locations were treated to live radio broadcasts, DJ's spinning tunes, Mascot appearances, Local Dignitary appearances, and the unparalleled customer service they have become accustom to from Jersey Mike's Frisco/Plano.

Volunteers included: Frisco Mayor Maso, Wipe Out Kids Cancer Board Members, Frisco Business Association, Frisco & Plano Chamber Members, Frisco & Plano Chamber Presidents, Mary Dowling, U15 Frisco Dynamo Girls Soccer &; Zeigler Family Members.

Went to my first Frisco chamber Networking event yesterday morning. Great group of small business people, looking forward to forging mutually beneficial business relationships as well as meeting new friends.

Here it is with 2 weeks to go.....equipment is in place except for the meatcase which will move in the morning. We are actually a few days ahead of schedule, now all the little things which take longer than you think they should........Get ready Plano for the next jersey mike's!

The store at Granite Park is taking shape as the cabinets were installed today. Wednesday 6AM the stove will be installed right under the hood.......The refrigerators, & meat case will arrive as well, I was standing where the meat case goes. Going quickly now, 23 days to opening!

City of Plano Code Changes for Granite Park

The economy is not doing well, right???? We all know this; but, the City of Plano does not care. They decide that we need panic hardware not only on the back door; but, the front door as well....what???? in this project we all have the same nice 12 foot high glass doors......now ours will have beautiful panic hardware adorning it....very nice....the price tag? only $3,500 additional not in the budget....no worries, thank you Plano!

A big topic of discussion each week at the Chamber is shop/buy/build Plano first.... I agree; however, small business must be supported by the City as well....ridiculous codes such as this, make no sense except to put money in the City coffers and hurt the small business.

After spending almost $3,000 to fix the window, paint the wall, & get a new TV installed.....I am not happy about this latest $3,500 bill.......oh well, we have great customers, thank you!

As you know by now, we had a break-in yesterday, see the pics below.....Window is fixed, new TV on the way today. It was a long day yesterday; but, I must brag about our customers! Each and every one of our regulars reached out to tell us how badly they felt about the damage and how they could not believe it either. Many talked about feeling sick to their stomachs, etc....made the day much easier for us.

3:45 AM wake up call - can't be good can it?

When the phone rings in the middle of the night, it can never be good. Not seeing one of the kids phone numbers was a relief, not one of the grandma's.....but, this can't be good. How about Hawk Security telling me the alarm is going off at the store. Out the door in two minutes for the 16 mile drive...half way there, they call again, Police requesting a key carrier, yes, HELLO! I am on my way, will be there in 10 minutes.

Arrive via Chisholm Pl. and see headlights shining on shattered glass from the side window, can't be good, can it?????? The cop is no where to be seen; but, the CSI lady is waiting for me....I am a smart one, I get my keys out to open the door....."um, we unlocked it from the inside after we went through the window." Well, thank you Callie, oh no you are not wearing a short mini with heels are you?????? Damn, can't a guy catch a break this early in the morning?

Quick Look, One 42" inch Samsung HD TV gone, bunch of glass to clean up, nothing else missing. Her comes the cop, he has been running down the street watching 3 perps who dine and ditched at Denny's, running why, does your parked car whose motor is purring not capable......"any questions." Nope..

Paperwork, they are gone in 5 minutes and I have an early start to my Saturday morning prep after cleaning up glass and sanitizing the table and chairs they used to catapulte themselves onto the top of the pepsi water cooler to take the TV from the "secure bracket".

Did I mention that yet???? A/V guy tells me, "there will be a giant hole in your wall before they get that TV down!" Wanna bet?????? Guess he forgot to secure the TV to the bracket....NICE! Bracket survived well, thank goodness.

Well, all in all, guess it could have been worse, nobody hurt, no additional vandalism, just a new $631 window and a new $1,500 50" TV.

Let's sell some subs to pay for the damage!

These days I feel like a weatherman.....let me explain......in the past after a few months in a new job, in this case, new business entirely, I have been able to predict within reason what is going to happen day to day, week to week, month to month. Of course, I am an optimist and I occasionally would predict GREAT things and they would only be GOOD or worse; but, not very often. Well, that was acceptable, but, now.......trying to predict on a daily basis is impossible....by week a little better, by month forget about it!

Example, Monday rain during lunch....bad day, predictable....Tuesday, no rain, bad day....hmm...no business after 2PM....today, forcasted rain to begin at 11AM, no rain came; but, customers came by the droves, the best lunch we have ever had!

Not complaining, just wish I could figure it out! Oh well, learning to relax and live with it.

"I just had to tell you that I live in New Jersey but routinely spend time in Frisco Texas. I was there for two weeks and just returned.

While there my friends told me I had to have the best subs in the world -- Jersey Mike's. Well they were absolutely correct. The shop was exceptionally clean, the rest room was immaculate and the staff was wonderful. They were helpful, friendly, weren't afraid to make suggestions and were exceedingly polite -- but then again that's not unusual in the Lone Star state. The cold cuts were sliced fresh (impressive) the bacon was crisp, the rolls were fresh -- a little bit of heaven. I just wanted you to know that those Plano guys are a shining example for you. One of them had just returned from training in Point Pleasant. Glad to see they are opening a second in Plano. I will be sure to see them again when I return there in a few months. "

We had two new catering jobs today...thank you! It is always fun to listen to the feedback, which is always tremendous......always, wow, much better than subway, Jason's or any other sandwich we have had catered.....Yes, it is! We pride ourselves on fresh sliced subs with deli meats, cheeses and fresh produce, can't be duplicated....TASTE and BELIEVE I say! time again and again....truly you can't find a fresher sub in DFW.

Plano East Lacrosse

Every Saturday night from 5-9 during Lacrosse season we donate a portion of the evenings sales to PESH Lacrosse. So far we have raised $303.51 for the club team which gets little to no financial support from the school. 1 week remains, go out and support the team in it's final game at 4PM Saturday and come by Jersey Mike's for dinner after the game. On Tuesday, 4/7, Tecton Services, our preferred GC, began demolition on our second Jersey Mike's Subs. Located in the Shops at Granite Park, on the S/E corner of Hwy 121 & Dallas Parkway in beautiful Northwest Plano(between ReMax & Campisi's).

Good morning! Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.

Today & tomorrow we are donating 25 boxed lunches to the judges and coaches participating in the Plano Aerobats Gymanstics Regional Meet at Carpenter Rec Center in Plano. We are happy to support our local youth in activities which offer kids the chance to believe in and achieve their dreams, and we enjoy to contributing to that growth & opportunity.

Giving back and supporing our local community is fundamentally part of our business plan. Due to the economy, many small businesses are cutting back on philanthropic budgets which means deserving organizations will suffer -- we can't let that happen, please support Jersey Mike's Plano, which in turn will allow us to continue to support community organizations such as the Plano Aerobats.
